The 1970 NCAA Basketball Championship was won by the UCLA Bruins, who defeated the Jacksonville Dolphins 80-69 in the championship game. The game was played on March 21, 1970, at the Maryland Fieldhouse in College Park, Maryland.
UCLA had a dominant run in the tournament, winning all six of their games by an average margin of 23 points. The Bruins were led by center Lew Alcindor (later known as Kareem Abdul-Jabbar), who scored 25 points and pulled down 18 rebounds in the championship game.
Jacksonville, led by star player Artis Gilmore, put up a strong fight and kept the game close for much of the first half. However, UCLA's superior talent and experience eventually took over, and the Bruins pulled away for the victory.
The championship was UCLA's third in a row and their sixth overall under legendary coach John Wooden. The Bruins would go on to win the next two NCAA championships as well, setting a record for seven consecutive titles that still stands today.
